OUR SOIL, OUR OIL.

I just attended a prayer forum, praying for peace in the Spratly Islands of the Philippines. About 171 prayer forums were held today throughout the United States. The Spratly Islands consist of 450 islands, atolls and reefs in the West Philippine Sea. There has been a territorial dispute between 6 countries including China and the Philippines. China has been planning to drill oil in the biggest island, the Recto Bank. China needs the oil to sustain its energy needs and maintain its position as an economic power. China estimates that it can extract at least $50 billion worth of oil annually from the area. With this money, the Philippines can solve their problem with poverty, create new industries and enterprises to supply well paid jobs, and other things. There have been many protests held since July and hopefully they have made an impact.

I really hope D6 and the member schools individually educate their members and community about this, because I will certainly bring this up to them. I have already spoken to the Ambassador’s wife, Vicky Cuisia and she wants the youth to participate and be knowledgeable of this, and not only of this but also the SAVE Act.
